Mixed Shots To Make With Your Aged Rum

Posted on

Aged rum is delicious, but some people may find it too strong to enjoy on its own as a shot. If you want to do some shots without the full bite and strength of the rum, try some of the following shot recipes. They tone down the aged rum without overpowering it. You can make the recipes with a younger, 3-year aged rum for a milder flavor, or with an older, 5-year aged rum for a more intense flavor.

Banana Bombers

Banana and rum just pair together so beautifully! Since this shot recipe only calls for three ingredients, it's also a good one to make at a party when you're in a hurry.

Ingredients for 4 Shots:

  • 2 shots aged rum
  • 1 shot banana liqueur
  • 1 shot pineapple juice

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well, and strain into four shot glasses. Enjoy!

Peppermint Mojo

If you want to get in the holiday spirit, there's nothing better to take you there than this peppermint rum shot. If you can manage to find peppermint shot glasses in the store, serve the shots in those! Otherwise, traditional glass rimmed with crushed peppermint candy work well.

Ingredients for 4 Shots:

  • 2 shots aged rum
  • 2 shots peppermint schnapps

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, shake well, and strain into your peppermint or peppermint-rimmed cocktail glasses.

Glowing Berry Shots

If you want shots that look as good as they taste, this is the recipe for you. Red grenadine sinks to the bottom of the glass for a festive, layered look.

Ingredients for 4 Shots:

  • 2 shots aged rum
  • 2 shots sour mix
  • grenadine

Shake the rum and sour mix together in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into the four shot glasses. Add the tiniest drop of grenadine to each glass; it will sink to the bottom. Enjoy before the grenadine dissipates!

Peach Summer Shots

These little peach shots taste like a summer day in the south. They're best with an older, 5-year aged rum since the peach liqueur has such complexity.

Ingredients for 4 Shots:

  • 2 shots aged rum
  • 1/2 shot brandy
  • 1 shot peach liqueur

Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, and shake well. Strain into four shot glasses, and enjoy!

Each of these shots has its own character, but they all have plenty of rum flavor. Mix up a batch or two at your next party. For more information about aged rum, click here.
